What a vehicle history report can tell you

About vehicle history
An AutoCheck vehicle history report an extremely valuable tool once you understand the information. There are many terms that aren't well known by people outside of the car business. We can help you understand what to look for and what some of the information on the report can mean to you.

AutoCheck vehicle history reports are designed to help you quickly and easily understand potentially significant information for vehicles manufactured in 1981 or later. Depending on the information reported to AutoCheck, your report can tell you if the vehicle:

  • If the vehicle has been branded
  • If the vehicle has been in an accident
  • How many times it's been titled
  • Where it's been titled
  • The odometer history

  • While AutoCheck has billions of records, we don't have every record on every vehicle . The data comes from DMVs in the U.S. and Canada, and other sources such as wholesale auto auctions, dealer inventory, and federal and local agencies. The database is updated daily.

What to look for in a history report
If you buy AutoCheck, chances are that most of the reports that you see will be "clean", meaning that we do not report any negative information associated with the vehicles and they qualify for Buyback Protection.

However, there are instances where the vehicle that you think looks and sounds good can actually have some negative history that might not be on the existing title. On the right we provide some samples of real vehicles that are on the road today that have been given a "brand" in one state, then have been issued clean titles in a different state. There is also a sample of a vehicle that is deemed to be an odometer rollback by AutoCheck based on the available odometer readings over time.

It is always a smart idea to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to be sure the car is what you think it is.

Every state's label for and definition of each brand is different. Check with your DMV for more information and precise definitions.
