About the AutoCheck Score

Why was AutoCheck Score SM created?
Trying to explain the impact and meaning of all the vehicle history events can be confusing and time-consuming. Some vehicle events, such as going through an auction, can be interpreted by consumers as a negative event, while other events can have a more positive impact than warranted, especially if they are considered separately from all other events. Condensing this information into an easy-to-understand score means both buyers and sellers better understand the history of a vehicle and how it compares with other vehicles similar in model year and class.

Who developed the model?
The model was developed by a team of modeling and decision analytics experts from Experian, a global information solutions company and a recognized leader in the development of broad-based and customized scoring models.

What is the overall AutoCheck Score SM range?
The AutoCheck Score range is 1 to 100.

How were the AutoCheck Score and the AutoCheck Score range for each vehicle created?
Experian's AutoCheck® vehicle history reports are sourced from vehicle data from Experian's National Vehicle Database, which has information on more than half a billion vehicles nationwide. Experian's team of modeling and decision analytics experts leveraged this database to develop the patent-pending algorithm to create the vehicle scores and the score ranges that are based on similar model year and class of vehicles.

Do you consider service and maintenance of the vehicle in determining the AutoCheck Score?
No. The AutoCheck Score and vehicle history report only look at the vehicle history events and not the condition of the vehicle (such as the vehicle interior, upholstery, dashboard components, or minor exterior blemishes such as paint chips, rust, etc.).

How is the AutoCheck Score different from other standard vehicle evaluations like NADA Guides and Kelly Blue Book?
AutoCheck Score condenses the vehicle history events into an easy-to-understand score and does not reflect or specifically provide wholesale or retail prices of used vehicles like NADAguides or Kelly Blue Book.

How often are scores calculated?
The AutoCheck Score is calculated in real time, meaning at the time the vehicle identification number is entered, AutoCheck Score is immediately calculated based on the information in the AutoCheck database at that time.
