Explaining the AutoCheck Score |
What does AutoCheck Score mean?
A vehicle's AutoCheck Score is based on information contained in Experian's AutoCheck vehicle history report specific to that vehicle's VIN (vehicle identification number). The AutoCheck Score rates the quality of a vehicle's history compared with all used vehicles on the road (after 1981) and provides a relative comparison to vehicles of similar model year and vehicle class. This consolidation of the AutoCheck vehicle history data into an easy-to-understand score helps dealers better explain vehicle history events to their customers, and consumers can make more informed purchase decisions. |
How do I explain AutoCheck Score to customers?
Explain that Experian, a leader in developing and implementing scoring technology has applied that same methodology and approach with vehicle history reporting, consolidating the information into a quick and easy-to understand score; the research, analysis and impact of the data is already completed for you, providing you with a higher level of confidence in your purchasing decision. |
A vehicle has an AutoCheck Score of 35. Is that bad?
Not necessarily. A score of 35 could be reflective of the age, mileage and other factors associated with that vehicle, but when compared with vehicles of similar model year and class it may score high within, or even above, the range (example - the AutoCheck score range could be 24 to 33). You should always compare the AutoCheck Score with the score range to get a relative comparison. |
How do I explain two vehicles with similar AutoCheck Scores (say one scores 85 and the other 80) to my customer?
First, determine if they are of similar model year and class. If not, there are differences between vehicle age and class (luxury versus compact) which will drive different outcomes. If they are of similar model year and class, the differences will be determined on factors such as higher mileage, vehicle use (police, taxi, etc.), repossession, etc., which are negative events, versus lower mileage, lease history and emissions testing, which are positive events. |
Does an AutoCheck Score of 95 mean that the vehicle is worth more than one that scores 85?
The AutoCheck Score rates the quality of a vehicle's history and provides a relative comparison to vehicles of similar model year and vehicle class. There are many more circumstances that influence the price and value of a vehicle, such as actual condition of the vehicle, local market conditions where the vehicle is sold, limited edition models and vehicles considered as collector models. Buyers/Appraisers need to use the AutoCheck Score as a method to understand and compare a vehicle's history. The other factors should be considered separately. |
Why is the number of owners missing from my report?
For vehicles that are 13 years or older, the consistency and reliability of owner information is uncertain, and we have opted to exclude this information for these vehicles rather than supply information that is questionable in terms of accuracy. |
Does AutoCheck Score fluctuate? Could it go up or down frequently?
AutoCheck strives to provide a high quality vehicle history report. As part of that, there is a strong commitment to add new data sources while improving existing sources. Additionally, the AutoCheck Score is delivered in real time - meaning a fresh AutoCheck Score is calculated each time a vehicle history report is requested. A vast majority of the times that a vehicle history report is requested, the AutoCheck Score will be the same each time. However, there are times when the AutoCheck Score will change, and here are a few of the reasons why:
